We cordially invite you to the public lecture by Prof. Martina Löw (TU Berlin).

Martina Löw is going to show that spaces at an urban scale will be changed fundamentally. Space is the medium in which the transformation of society is taking place. Martina Löw argues that since the 1960s we have witnessed a refiguration of spaces, which is often experienced as uncertainty leading to conflicts and tensions in many societies. She describes forms and effects of urban spatial refiguration, using examples from Berlin (Germany) and Seoul (South Korea). Her focus is on the multiplicity of spatial figures and the consequences for daily life.

Martina Löw is professor of sociology at the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. Her areas of specialization and research are sociological theory, urban sociology, space theory and cultural sociology. She was visiting professor and held fellowships at universities in Gothenburg (Sweden), Salvador da Bahia (Brazil), St. Gallen (Switzerland), Paris (France) and Vienna (Austria). From 2011 until 2013 she was president of the German Sociological Association. Currently she is head of the Collaborative Research Centre “Re-Figuration of Spaces” (DFG).
