The Library of the GHI Warsaw

The library of the German Historical Institute Warsaw is a reference library that currently holds around 100,000 volumes and subscribes to more than 300 periodicals. The library’s task is to provide textual materials of relevance to the research being carried out at the institute. It also functions as a useful supplement to Warsaw’s major historical libraries. Within the framework of its collection policy, which covers the history of Germany, Poland and German-Polish relations, the institute’s main emphasis is therefore on specialised literature in Western languages and on topics central to the institute’s key fields of research.

Outside visitors are welcome to use the reference library free of charge. Its holdings are fully searchable online through the OPAC system, the EZB (an electronic journal library), and the DBIS (a data bank and information system). In addition to printed materials, users also have access to electronic resources.

Thanks to the free scanning service, interested users can make copies of materials themselves for personal use in the GHI library. This service also applies to electronic collections. Individuals interested in making or ordering copies are requested to contact us at bibliothek@dhi.waw.pl.
