The Prague Branch Welcomes Foundation President Ute Frevert



Our Prague branch office is delighted to welcome Prof. Ute Frevert, President of the Max Weber Foundation, for two lectures in March. As one of the leading scholars in the field of the history of emotions, the historian's visit underscores the Foundation's active commitment to academic exchange in Eastern Central Europe.
A lecture on “The Politics of Humiliation: Shame and Shaming in Modern History” is planned for March 24, 2026, at the Czech Academy of Sciences. The event is organized in cooperation with the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In her lecture, Prof. Frevert analyzes the growing sensitivity to humiliation in modern societies and its political and international dimensions.
On March 25, 2026, Prof. Frevert will give a lecture on “History of Emotions: Promises, Projects and Achievements” at the Aula Jana Sokola, reflecting on the emotional change in historiography, its key concepts, and its far-reaching implications for the understanding of modern governance and politics. The event is organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University in Prague.
