Illusions of Omnipotence - Exhibition Catalogue Out Now

© 2025 Maciej Krajewski

The exhibition Illusions of Omnipotence. Architecture and Daily Life under German Occupation presented a new perspective on the history of the area known as (the) Warthegau: Focusing on the urban space, interior designs, and landscape, it connected German crimes with the everyday life of the occupying society.

The bilingual (Polish and German) exhibition catalog, exquisitely designed by Piotr Kacprzak, is now available for purchase. An essay by Aleksandra Paradowska and Annika Wienert places the exhibition theme in the context of contemporary art, dealing i.a. with the installation “Yellow Coal” by Iza Tarasewicz, which was developed especially for the exhibition in the former German Imperial Castle in Poznan.

Christhardt Henschel devotes his essay to German propaganda maps as “ambigous figures of illusions of omnipotence”. A third article, by Marcin Przegiętka, demonstrates how language policies exemplify the contradictions inherent to Germanization efforts in occupied Poland.
