New publication: Jan Klápště, Martin Nodl (Hg.): Böhmische und mährische Städte im Hoch- und Spätmittelalter

Böhmische und mährische Städte im Hoch- und Spätmittelalter

This anthology contains selected studies by Czech and Moravian historians and archaeologists who have dealt with the development of (late) medieval towns over the last twenty years. Emphasis has been placed on a socio-historical approach, methodologically sound contributions and the selection of representative sources that provide information about towns in Bohemia and Moravia as well as Czech Silesia. The focus is on the two most important centres of the Bohemian kingdom: Prague and Brno. However, as the urban way of life in the Middle Ages varied greatly, other royal cities (Pilsen, Mies) were also used for comparison.

Prof. Jan Klápště is Head of Medieval Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague [Ústav pro archeologii, Filozofická fakulta Univerzity Karlovy, Praha].

Dr. Martin Nodl is a research associate at the Centre for Medieval Studies, Institute of Philosophy, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague [Centrum medievistických studií, Filozofický ústav AV ČR, Praha].
