New publication: Diskonektivität: Zerfall oder Strukturwandel von Netzwerken im vormodernen Ostmitteleuropa?

In the context of globalization, humanities and social science scholars have coined the term “disconnectivity.” It relativizes the previous linear understanding of an intensive, ever-advancing densification and interconnection of networks and instead focuses on the complex and dialectical relationship between interdependence, lack of connection, and decoupling.

From a historical perspective, a distinction is made between three basic forms of disconnectivity:
a) interruptions
b) absences
c) detours

The first of these, interruptions, are the focus of this conference volume and are examined using the example of networks of an economic, cultural, political, social, or communicative nature.
