The Holy Cross Church in Wrocław, founded in 1288, is distinguished by its unusual design and is one of the most interesting Gothic religious buildings in Silesia.
Romana Kálnai Petráková's architectural monograph focuses on the two-story hall church with a unique variation of the trefoil choir. Based on a wide range of art historical methods, including classical historical source analysis, style and form analysis, a building typological investigation, and practical building research, including a dendrochronological analysis of the Gothic roof structure, the study provides insightful answers to questions about the intention and historical circumstances of the foundation, the history of the church's construction, the chronology of its construction, and its stylistic and building typological classification. The recently collected data allow the Holy Cross Church to be recontextualized within the framework of Gothic sacred architecture.
