Jan Wachter

Jan Wachter, born in Kaiserslautern, studied international economics, European studies, and Slavic studies at the Universities of Tübingen and Leipzig, with study visits to Lomonosov Moscow State University and Masaryk University in Brno. From September to December 2024, he was a research assistant in the “Interdependence and Globalization” department at the GWZO with funding from SFB 1199, and since October 2025 he has been a scholarship holder in the “Interdependence and Globalization” department, funded by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. In his doctoral project, he is investigating energy policy transformation processes in Czechia and Slovakia (1960s to 2004). The focus is on conflicting goals between security of supply, economic competitiveness, and ecological requirements. From March 2 to April 1, 2026, he will be completing a research fellowship at the German Historical Institute Warsaw.
