Sofia Nyblom

Sofia Nyblom is a Swedish journalist, essayist, critic, moderator and independent researcher specializing in Ukrainian art, cultural diplomacy, and artistic responses to Russia's ecocide.

During her stay as Junior Resident Scholar, she will be collaborating with Ukrainian artist and PhD student Darja Lukjanenko and Czech poet Sylva Fischerová on the project "Rivers as Political Bodies", in anticipation of a public presentation and debate at the French Institute, Prague on April 20, co-organized with the Research Institute for Ukraine in a Changing Europe at Charles University; and a conference in Lviv on June 4-6, "The Most Documented War: Polyphony of Stories". 

Sofia holds double masters degrees from the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Uppsala University, and Juilliard School, New York. 

She has produced five radio documentaries for Swedish national radio on Ukrainian music and art, and participates in an exchange project with Theatre of Playwrights in Kyiv, Ukraine which has resulted in two volumes of Swedish translations of Ukrainian drama, aswell as readings and public debates.

Her début novel was published in 2021, and she is presently working on a biography with multidisciplinary artist and costume designer Mylla Ek. 

From April 1 to 30, 2026, Sofia Nyblom will be a fellow in the Scholar in Residence program in Prague.
