The Nazi concentration and extermination camps are primarily remembered as sites of the Holocaust. However, around a quarter of all European Jews who were murdered by the Germans – with voluntary and forced local support – died in mass shootings near their homes.

As part of the research project “Mass Graves of the Holocaust”, an interactive map was created showing the mass graves of the Holocaust in the General Government. The descriptions are gradually being supplemented with historical archive sources. This makes it possible to search and sort information according to various criteria, such as city names, number of victims, or whether the graves are located in or outside of a Jewish cemetery. The digital map has been enriched with additional cartographic data, which is available to Holocaust researchers in this form for the first time.
