Apply now!

The application phase for our scholarships is open. Applications for scholarships beginning between July and December 2025 must be submitted by March 31.

During a fellowship, scholarship holders can use the infrastructure of the German Historical Institute Warsaw and its branch offices in Prague and Vilnius. This includes the academic library with research literature on the history of Germany, Poland and East Central Europe. It offers access to over 100,000 books, around 5,000 subscribed history journals and all electronic media from our partner libraries in London, Washington, Paris and Beirut.

The chief criterion for selection is excellence. An additional factor is the degree to which the research project is thematically linked to the current research priorities of the GHI. Funding is only available for projects that are at an advanced stage. The scholarships are designed to cover the additional expenses incurred by recipients during their research stays in Poland, Lithuania, or the Czech Republic.

The German Historical Institute Warsaw determines the scholarship amount at its sole discretion. Currently, these amount to 1,300 EUR per month for doctoral students and 1,800 EUR for postdoctoral researchers.
