Prof. dr hab. Achim Landwehr (Konstanz): The Hollowing Out of Historical Epochal Boundaries under Conditions of the Climate Crisis
pon. 06.10.2025 | 17:00
Wilno

Debates about the climate crisis and ecological problems are always historical debates as well. For instance, the question is regularly asked how we got into this situation and how we will move forward from here. With the Anthropocene, a new epoch in the history of the planet and of humanity has already been proclaimed. At the same time, however, we must recognize how established historical classifications are failing. For the ecological crisis makes it very clear to us how developments from the depths of Earth's history are becoming very relevant today (depletion of natural resources) or how current ways of life have enormous long-term implications for the future (radioactive waste). How history can (still) be written under such conditions will be discussed in the lecture.
Moderator: Doc. dr. Aurimas Švedas, director of the Lithuanian Historical Institute
The lecture will take place at Vilnius University Faculty of History, auditorium no. 211.
Start of the lecture is at 17:00.
