Workshop “Holy Roman Empire and Divided Poland around 1200: Principles of Political Culture in Comparison”

On 8 June 2026, from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m., the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw (Room 125) will host the medieval studies workshop “Holy Roman Empire and Divided Poland around 1200: Principles of Political Culture in Comparison”, organised as part of the Professor Henryk Samsonowicz Seminar. The special guest of the workshop will be Prof. Knut Görich from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, one of the leading scholars of medieval political culture and ideologies of rulership in the medieval Empire, and the author of numerous monographs, including a major biography of Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa. The workshop will also feature papers and discussions by Dr Michał Machalski (Central European University, Vienna), Prof. Zbigniew Dalewski (Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences), as well as Prof. Grzegorz Pac, Prof. Sławomir Gawlas, Prof. Paweł Żmudzki, and Prof. Marcin Rafał Pauk from the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw.
