The Rise of the Adaptive Society. Polycrisis, social transformation, and the politics we might get
Modern society was dominated by the belief that the world could be shaped by politics and that progress would almost automatically ensure a better tomorrow. Global warming, economic crisis and individual exhaustion have shaken this optimism. Today, the primary concern is to mitigate catastrophe. But even if this succeeds, we will still have to deal with change. Questions of self-preservation are overriding those of individual and collective self-realization. Adaptation becomes the leitmotif of late-modern society. What is still in it for liberalism?
