Jaromír Mrňka, Ph.D. (*1988, Moravia) is a Czech historian and social scientist. He completed his studies in Prague, Berlin and Munich with a doctorate at Charles University in Prague in 2017. His dissertation „Politik und soziale Praxis kollektiver Gewalt in den böhmischen Ländern 1944–1946“ (“Politics and Social Practice of Collective Violence in the Czech Lands 1944-1946”) was published in 2019 under the title “The Limits of Humanity” (“Limity lidskosti”). His research interests lie in modern European economic and social history, social theory and research methodology. He focuses primarily on changing values, social consensus and the legitimacy of the social order in the context of the fundamental milestones of Czech society in the 20th century. He analyzed the forms of collective violence in the Czech lands in the years 1944-1946, focusing on the social mechanisms behind their escalation into mass atrocities. He also worked on a research project dealing with denunciation as a social practice in Bohemia during the Second World War and its aftermath, and at the same time researched forms of conflict-related sexual violence in the Czech Republic at the end of the Second World War.
